I have a Mackie 1604 VLZ. The phantom power can be applied to all channels at a time, or none at all. Can I use mics that do not require phantom power and mics that do require phantom power at the same time? Or will applying phantom power to a non powered mic ruin the mic? Thanks for your help.

You won't hurt your mics with phantom power (unless you are using a ribbon mic).

Unless you have a damaged mic cable, you are safe with Phantom power on.

Direct Box?

Will the phantom power mess up a direct box, or the direct out on an amp?

This reminds of the keyboard-dude that made his own cables. He thought he didn't have to buy DI-boxes if he made cables from his keyboard (1/4") to XLR.
So I had still phantom power on those channels. It was an old sort of keyboard (don't remember the type), and it sure didn't like the phantompower.
