Please help. I would like to use the RODE NT1 microphone plugged into an Alesis studio 32 with 48 volt of phantom power. Now, when I record, I would like to use a couple of SM 57 to mike the drums. All the microphones use the XLR connections, however, to use the RODE NT1, I have to activate the 48 volt phantom power. Would this ruin my SM 57's since my SM 57 does not need any power. Please help.

This is in the FAQ...pro dynamic mics like SM57s and SM58s are not affected one way or the other by the presence of properly wired phantom power.

I read just about everything on this web site and I could not figure out how I missed or forgotten that one!? Thanks, Dragon!

I must give a warning, on some boards (including my Mackie) turning on the phantom power has introduced unwanted noise to the overall mix. Now, that may not suppose to happen, but it does. Any thoughts on why, anyone?

Peace, Jim

Most likely, it's your particular board's problem and not an overall Mackie problem. But, thank you for the warning incase others may be experiencing the same kinds of interference in their mix as you.

What seems more pertaining to phantom power problems on a Mackie is that a lot of people have reported that there is a hum coming from the output of a Neumann TLM-103 which has to do with the phantom power.

Being a Neumann TLM-103 matched-pair owner, a former Mackie SR24-4 owner, and and a present Mackie 1604VLZ-PRO owner (for my live set-up; though I don't use the 103s for live performances), I've never had a single problem with any of them apart nor together.
