i heard very nice things about k7 processors by amd and i was thinking to buy one to use with acid cubase and other softwares. someone knows his performances compaired with pentium III processors in multitrack recording?

performance wise ive heard rumors (?) that the athlon was better than the pentium III .. but what i know that isnt rumors , is that most multitrack software and soundcards dont support the athlon chip.. if it works , then be happy , if it doesnt , dont rely on the manufacturer for support..they'll simply say "sorry , we dont support athlon" ..

unless of course these problems have been resolved..

Well, just a few comments from my own experience.

I'm running an Athlon 600 and I've succesfully had a Midiman 2044, a SBLive! and a Turtle Beach Tropez working on it. Cakewalk works far better than it ever did on my Celeron 333, and my hooky copy of cubase works just as badly (but that might not have anythig to do with the processor!).

Hope that is of some use.

Maybe I should add that that I've so far not had _any_ compatibility problems with the Athlon, not with hardare or software.

Perhaps you should try the messageboard here http://www.aceshardware.com use the "general" board. This site is excellent for AMD related questions.

I have used nothing but AMD processors in my systems for the past 5 years. And I have had no issues related to any of them. I'am currently using an Athlon 550Mhz. The only problems that you may encounter will most likely not be due to the CPU, they are most commonly caused by inexperience.

I have had no problems using Cool Edit Pro and Vegas Pro. I have no experiencc with Cubase though.

The nice things you have heard about K7s are true.
