I just did a search at rec.audio.pro, and this is what Fletcher (at Mercenary) had to say about it:
"It's a real piece of serious equipment, you won't find it in the Sam Ash catalog."
He went on to recommend it as a means to "warm up" a digital mix by adding some extra harmonics and so on.
Fletcher seems to know what he's talking about, so I would assume it's a pretty nice piece of gear.

I don't know why I didn't think of doing a search at RAP. ??
I have 2 pre's that I use now; an ART PRO MPA, that I use as line level pre-amp on my synth/sound module right now, and a pair of vintage Audix 35102's that I use for mics. My Yamaha O1V has some pre's too, but I don't use them. At any rate, I was thinking of the Pendulum, to give me a nice tube pre, and some additional flavour. Sounds like this could be the ticket, but I need to find out more about it first, as it would be a pretty significant investment.
If anyone else knows about it or has heard anything about it, point me in that direction.

What do you think of the ART Pro MPA? Sorry if I've already asked this question. From what I've read it's supposed to be quieter than the Tube MP, but there is supposedly a certain amount of loss in detail with it.
I was thinking about it because a lot of the bands I'm working with are purposely after a more "lo-fi" sound. They're mostly influenced by bands like Wilco, and old Neil Young, Eagles, etc.
I was thinking about the Peavey VMP2, but believe it or not, I'm worried that it might be too clean for some of the bands around here.
I figure the ART might be just the ticket, since the sound is kind of typified by a tubey, less-detailed sound anyway. And now these things (ART) are selling for like $300 so I figure what the hell?

I like the one I have A LOT!
I don't notice a loss in detail with it, but rather a softer, warmer tone from it. The effect of the tube varies with how hard you try to drive it.
Comparing it to the Tube MP is probably insulting to ART!
Those people that have the Tube MP, and know of it's autrocities, have probably shyed away from other ART products, and thats a shame. Because it really is a nice "pro-summer" level mic-pre.

I've been lusting after a variety of Pendulum products for years. They just don't make anything that isn't completely wonderful! Compared to what you have, getting the Pendulum would be equivalent of having an SM57 or a Marshall and going out and buying a U47. The quality jump will be exponential. You will also be the envy of all your friends. I hope you have a nice mic or two to make it worth your while. I'm very jealous.

Littledog, yeah, they look pretty sweet! The vintage Audix 35102's racked by Brent Averill, my mian mic pre's, are really nice as well. Clean, discrete, class A, and the EQ that comes with them is very good as well, but very sensitive, and somewhat difficult to use effectively. But I like working with them.
I'd like to have a nice tube pre amp, this one looks like the ticket, I just hope that when I get this one, I'm not left wondering if I should have gotten say, a vintage Neve, or an Avalon, or something else. Its tough buying gear that you've never heard, or know little about.
