I know this probably belongs in the studio construction thread but I figured the analog guys would have the answer. In old studios like Gold Star, United Western and I think Capitol too they have what looks like pegboard all over the walls in the control room. Just wondering what the purpose of this is and how it was constructed. I figured it could just be for hanging things or maybe it has good acoustic properties. Anything you guys know about this would help.

I think the stuff that's behind the board is part of the acoustic equation.

It's not peg-board. Those are old-school cellulose-type acoustic tiles.

...and probably contained asbestos!!!!!!
