My old bandleader let me try his Emmons once. It was a seriously non-musical moment.

Not really. But I do have an old lap guitar. It is an offshot of Rickenbacher called Electo. It has a soapbar P90 looking pickup. I have to rewire it or change the pickup because it just has this horrible hum with a nasty hiss. Once it is fixed I will be on my way;)

Sorry, Electro. And whats with this one message every 60 seconds?

Any other pedal steel players here?
Danger Will Robinson...:)

I take my hat off to anyone who can play pedal steel. It's a pity pedal steel=country music to most folks.

Some months ago I was listening to Lucky Oceans' radio programme here in Australia, and he played some tracks by a black guy playing some down & dirty blues music on a pedal steel complete with overdriven amp. It was real tasty.

Electros were a model made under the Rickenbacher name, at least thats what mine says. Mine's got the horseshoe pickup.....I tune it to an E6.

You can get a pedal steel effect out of a lap steel by bending the B and G (use something like a .013 and .017) strings behind the bar with your left ring finger. 'Bud's Bounce' is a good one to try.

I'd like to take on a pedal steel but there's so many other instruments I'm trying to keep chops on it would be too much.

I play a little lap steel and have owned a few including a Gibson I almost gave away like a dipshit.

Mine doesn't even mention Rickenbacher. I had to dig through the internet to find out. I have concluded that it is an early '60s model.

Just took a look at it, it says 'Rickenbacher', then below it "Electro", then a couple of cool lightning bolts, then in small print, 'Los Angeles'. Most likely made in the late '30's.

By the '60's they may well have farmed out the 'Electro' name.

"Originally, Electro String Instrument Corporation (ESIC) was the name of the parent company that produced "Rickenbacker" brand products. The "Electro" name was the main name, while it was "Rickenbacker" that was the pseudonym!

Other product names which were often made by ESIC include Ryder, Symphonia Grand, Academy, NHF, and Contello, but these were private label goods which might also have been made by other suppliers as well.

The only direct brand names that I recall being owned by the company are Rickenbacker, Electro, and Road (now owned by Celestion of England).

By the way as an historical aside, ESIC remains in existence today, as it's name was changed to Rickenbacker International Corporation as part of a series of corporate mergers, which happened only about 2 years ago, to reunite the various pieces of our guitar business."
