I might be getting one of these very soon so I was curious about a few things...

I plan on using this for kick, snare, guitars and maybe vox.

Will using this on multiple tracks add a bad buildup to the final mix?

How is it for bass DI?

Does it shine on anything in particular?

someone is selling them at the "Free Ads" forum in case you don't already know....

One of those is mine. That's why I'm asking. :)

Maybe -- maybe not. Depends on how it's used.

One of the best.

Maybe vocals. Depends on the application, but it should sound good on just about anything. It's a good mic pre.

On gearslutz a guy commented saying that it's a little too sluggish for use on the snare drum. I'm assuming you've used one, chess? Do you have the same opinion?

I'm looking to use this as my main snare/kick pre and I'll probably get a RNP for OHs so I want to see if this will be solid enough on snare for that.

Obviously, the guy commenting thought it was too sluggish for him, and for the kind of sound he's looking for and for his applications.

I would say you have to take the whole thing in context -- like what mic you're using with it . . . what kind of overheads you're using and where/how are they positioned. How much of the snare sound is from the overhead and how much from the snare mic . . . and what kind of sound you're personally going for.

Some people might like the sluggishness. Sounds "warmer" and more vintage, ya know. :D :D he he. I crack myself up, sometimes. I'd say any time you're using a real tube pre on drums you're trading at least a little of the immediacy; i.e. snare "crack" for some extra meat/girth so one is not necessarily better or worse than the other -- just different benefits/attributes.

I have to correct you here and say that this HAS to be from the TUBES! Duh. Tubes warm things up. ;)

Thanks for the info.
