Peavey Triumph 60 Effects loop

I have a question for you pros. I use a Peavey Triumph 60 tube amp. I'd like to run a little delay and perhapes chorus/phaser thru the effects loop. I've ran a GNX 3 from Digitech thru the effects loop and it sounds terrible. To much hiss. Is there a better unit to run thru the effects loop that won't create so much noise?

I can run the GNX 3 thru the return and bypass the preamp but I want to utilize the preamp overdrive within Triumph 60. The solid state tube amp modeling with the GNX 3 just don't cut it.

Another thing. Should I run a compressor thru the effects loop or between the guitar and amp. Who make the quitest compressor?

I have a triumph 60 .. though im not currently using it .. i used to use it with a digitech rp1 way back and i ended up having to use my processor in front of the amp .. dont know why but i had the same prob ... as soon as i get $$ for new tubes i may bring my peavey back .. id suggest gettin rid of the digitech as most of their stuff sounds like crap .. id just get a couple of individual effects you use with your amp maybe in pedal form ...
