Peavey or Fender

depends on your needs and what you'd do the difference of dough. If you were planning on throwing a bachelor party with the rest of the money, go with the Peavey.

If not, the Fender is worth the extra mooch.
 
When you went to the music store and tried them out - which one did you like better?
 
Basically I don't want any tubes in my amp.

But I still want it to sound like a tube amp.

Then check out the Roland Blues Cube 60... solid state, but (IMHO) the most authentic tube sounding SS amp available. Channel switching, 1x12 or 3x10, great tone at any volume, well built, capable of being extremely LOUD if you need it. Used, they go for around $250-$300.
