The Finalizer is TC Electronics "mastering" processor that includes some mastering-style tools such as compression, limiting, gain mods, sweetening, etc...

They're intended for DIY mastering, but at best, they're a very poor substitute for a mastering house... use with care!

IMO, the finalizer is just an advanced compressor with some additional features (that may help in 'mastering'). Whether you may need it or not depends on your dough, whether you work on a pc /mac(you might then use plugins that have about the same or even quality). I'd really LOVE to have one or the quantum (and I'd surely send my REAL amatuer mixes :D over them), but it seems rather naive to think that you'll be a Bob Katz after you own one.

I have a Roland VS and prefer a halfway decent external multiband compressor over the internals (well comprae the prices of a vs8f2 to a quatum...)

The thingies may work really nice on single tracks. I do a lot of multiband compression on voice... You can also get some killer4 snares a.s.o., but it takes really time and you end up kinda artificial very soon...
