Peak Limiter Settings for Behringer Composer Pro?

DRUMMERS!!! Thank GOD they don't rule audio! ;)

Mic>Compressor>Preamp is NOT a good way to go about it! Mic>Preamp>Compressor!!!

Mic levels are very LOW! You will have to lower the threshold of the compressor so much, and the signal to noise ratio will not be too good on the ensuing LINE Level output of the compressor feeding the preamp. Think of it this way, any noise generated between the mic and compressor will be amplified by the compressor, then the compressor will add noise, then the mic preamp will get ALL that noise, and amplify it!!! Not so good.

Also, compressors are not really designed to amplify sound. Sure, they have a bit of "make up gain" after the compression, but the compressor, in it's proper place in a signal chain is already dealing with a Line Level signal, which already has enjoyed proper amplification from a preamp somewhere before....blah blah blah....

So, just take my word for it. That prescribed way of going about it is not the proper signal path at all!

A drummer joke is in order now!!! :D

What did the drummer get on his IQ test?

drool........

Good luck

A drummer who does live sound....thats funny already....

A small clif note to Ed's post.....some instruments can be hooked to a compressor prior to the mixer but you need to be sure that the sensativity and impendance of the compressors input as well as the level output of the compressor to the mixers line input will match.
On some instruments this gives a excellent clean sound.

On a mic that will never happen although I hear that there are some new mics that come with built in pres and converters.....
who knows whats next...a mic that can mix the vocals for you and make a coffee........
