I bought a Dell Inspirion Laptop that has a PCIexpress card slot that can hold the 34 or 54mm express cards. I was considering the purchase of a firewire 1394a compatible card in order to run a firebox on my laptop and also on my Sony Vaio home computer, thereby avoiding a USB interface purchase.

Has anyone used a firewire express card on a laptop for recording?

Several threads touch on PCIexpress cards but no user experiences that I saw......It would be great if it all worked with the same cakewalk software on both systems :)

My laptop has one Firewire port built in --- yours may too.

Unlike a desktop machine the port is smaller and can't power any kind of audio interface, so you'll need both a bigger-to-smaller Firewire adapter and the (presumably) wallwart power unit that comes with most Firewire interfaces.

By exploring this route you'll probably save the money a PCIexpress card would have set you back.

Nope two USB 2.0 ports and a PCIexpress port but thanks for the suggestion.
