I have an adat studio and need to get a pc made just for editing mixes and burning cds. I've done some editing on a friends pc using cool edit pro and the noise reduction is fantastic. He has a soundblaster live sound card with a digital input. These are the only two components I'm sure are sufficient for my needs. I don't know speeds, hard drive, ram, or burner specs. to look for in buying this single purpose machine. I've asked many friends who own pcs and their advice is getting very confusing. I need to have large files. I've recently recorded my first audio book. The entire novel is currently at 5 hours 20 minutes long. There are 39 chapters with a preface and a fade. Sometimes there are 2 edits per written line of verse. Almost every breath taken for reading has to be turned down and pauses shortened and some leveling on parts where the reader gets excited. It gets very tedious, but it can only be fixed on the PC. If someone could advise me on a system that is upgradable and affordable, please do! I grew up in the analog world so please understand.
