I've got a TASCAM 488 Mk II, and I have been playing around with Acid Music on my PC and would like to record some of the loops I have created on the PC onto the 8-track. I have a Creative SoundBlaster AudioPCI 64D sound card on my PC. How do I do this? I AM an amateur. Do I use a MIDI device to accomplish this? Eventually, I would like to move the recorded tracks from the 8-track back to the PC. I'm assuming the same technique, in reverse, would apply. Thanks in advance for any help/advice on this. - Michael

You need some cables. 1/8" stereo male mini-plug to two (left and right) of whatever connectors your 8 track accepts for inputs. RCA/1/4". Plug the 1/8" into the speaker/line out on your soundcard into 2/inputs/2 free tracks on the 8 track and record it. If the acid/loop is going to be added to something already on the 8 track, you will have some sync problems. If this acid/loop is the base for other instruments to be recorded to on the 8 track, no problems. To get the audio back to your computer, take the main 2 outputs from your 8 track, connect the 1/8" mini jack to the line in (not mic-in) on your sound card, and record with whatever software you use. You will only be able to record 2 tracks at a time with your sound card, so you either send a 2 track mixdown from the 8 track to the computer, or 2 tracks at a time and deal with the sync issues.

Hi, Why don't you just use a software DAW program to do all your recording in the computer. I can't see any benifets to recording to tape unless you are trying to achieve a certain kind of sound. By keeping things in the computer you will get a much better sound. Some software to check out would be cool edit, cubasis, or n-track.
