I am shopping around for a PC to be part my future home recording system. are there some particular specs that anyone recommends and would i be limited if i get a laptop as opposed to a desktop computer?
any response is appreciated.

I think you are better off with a PC rather than a lap top, because you have the option of replacing parts (better sound cards, etc.).
If you already have a PC a cheap basic setup would be a Soundblaster live card (about $30 nowadays), and Ntracks recording software (about $50), and if you can afford one, a Mic preamp.

thx

thx djc , i will mos def look into that. but on the other hand how much of a limitation would be the best laptop in the market right now. i would gather it would a long a way, dont you think so ?

The best laptops are usually about as good as the worst desktops.

What are your requirements? How many tracks total, recorded tracks at once, do you plan on mixing on the laptop, using plugin effects or synths?

A simple laptop recorder isn't a big deal but if you want to record full bands at once then it becomes a bit more of a challenge. What is your budget for a soundcard?

TRUE, i am slowly acknowledging the fact that the desktop will be the best for the PC based recording home studio i can get compared to the laptop. the only thing that sucks is potability .....but thx anyway

Tonyjava, I have to agree with TexRoadkill and djc.

You will be very limited when it comes to the laptop, in terms of I/O's and upgrade ability.

Plus, the laptop hard drive is below 5400 rpm's, it is probably only 3400 rpm's

You will need to let us know.....

your financial budget

the type of music you are creating

your number of Ins / Outs

your level of production

Reply back to us. ;)

Peace...

thx

you guys are truly too kind !! I dont want to limit myself to budget costs , i am willing to be patient and save for the best out there. as for music i am looking creating music that will have a lot of vocals and beats , on the vocals i intend to have a lot of effects since some priojects are going to be purely acappella. on the non-acappella side i am lookinbg at RnB music and a mix of HipHop , is there anything specific i need to get for that type of stuff.....and does anyone recomend any type of PC out there , ....roughly whats the cost.
