pc mixing with monitors

I'm doing pc audio mixing and looking for some monitors besides the ones on my pc which are JBLs and don't sound bad at all and headhones don't give me a true sound. I have a budget around $300.00 for a set of 2. I'm assuming I use the output of my sound card to connect these to the pc? Any suggestions to point me the right way will be greatly appreciated. You'd "probably" want a volume contraol at some point - Could be as simple as a Behringer sandwich-sized mixer or Samson C-Control. But yes, for the time-being, you can control the volume using your PC mixer (NOT the mixer in your recording software, as that will affect the mix volume).
