Slackmaster 2000,
Actually you are 100% dead wrong. Just because certain sites that link to warez sites are still up that does not mean it is legal. Again, all you have to do is consider if someone put a link to an illegal mp3 site, or even a direct link to an illegal mp3 file would you let that link stay on this site?
I still don't know if you (Slackmaster2000) are a moderator/webmaster for this site, but if you are I'm more than surprised about your attitude about this. Piracy in the music world is crazy with all the illegal song trading, the piracy of samples/loops alone is mind boggling. To have someone able to post a link to a warez site on this forum and not have it removed is dissapointing to say the least. I wonder how the other business minded users who visit this site would think if they saw the link. Right now it's buried in a unrelated subject, but if you posted a subject like "Warez Site" I wouldn't be surprised if you would get ALOT more responses like mine.
Regardless of the legality of the link, there is ethics here. And if HomeRecording.com allows links to Warez in their forums, this is simply not a good thing.
Yes, I am a moderator.
And I am against warez. That doesn't mean I'm willing to censor a link to some generic warez site.
If you can find me any just one piece of legislation that would make a link to a website illegal, then please provide it. I'm being serious here. I don't think you'll find it, however, or every search engine on the planet would be shut down.
If he had linked directly to some file, I would remove it. One time I did remove a link in the n-Track forum that pointed to a warez version of n-Track...I have no bones about something like that.
People can make their
own choices as to what they're going to do at that warez site. If they choose to use it, then they make that choice without ANY CONSENT from HomeRecording.Com. Once they click that link they are creating a brand new browser session and are on their own.
We are adults here, and we can discuss this warez issue as much as we'd like. People can tell other people where they get their warez...whether they just "say it" or they provide a link to it. You and others can tell them that it's wrong to use warez.
Very little information is actually illegal to possess or share.
As a moderator I'm not going to belittle or put you down over your opinion on this matter, I think you make some valid points. If you can demonstrate to me that the link does indeed violate the law then I will certainly remove it.
You may also contact Dragon on the matter as well.
I will concede that this thread does not belong in the mixing clinic, and I'll move it to the Cave.
