Patch Bays

Rzzzzz!
I'm trying to find a cheapie cheap patchbay for my SKB rack case.

I need 1/4" inputs on the front and the back. 1U for sure. Normalized or not.

Any recommendations?

behringer. I use them, havent crapped out on me yet. Ok for what they do. Find a used one for 20 bucks. Or furman, they make pretty nice ones. but you cant beat the behringer, if it breaks, you can afford to get a new one, even tho I doubt it will. After all, how could behringer possible screw up a patchbay? :D :p :rolleyes:
 
Is that Behringer the one that MF has for $29? That could do it if the back as well as the front are phono jacks too.

I'll explain what I'm using it for if this helps others to help me.

I've got a line mixer in my keyboard rig that's housed in a new SKB rack. The rack is one of those DJ mixer racks and it almost completely sealed. So, I want to route the inputs from the back of the line mixer to a patchbay that I'll mount to the front of the SKB case. So, the patchbay is really just an elaborate series of male to male gender changers. I'll be using short patch cables to go from the line mixer to the patch bay.

Otherwise, I'm going to have to plug my stuff in direct through the small opening in the back of the SKB case which would be a huge pain.

I can post photos if that helps even more.

I usually stay away from Behringer as far as I can, but the Behringer patchbays do the job, even though they are cheap. After all, what's in a patchbay other than a few plugs?

I don't think I'm exactly helping on the cheap part of it, but I was recommended this patchbay because I was getting unwanted buzzing/hiss from another Hosa that I had gotten for maybe around 40 bucks....Cheapie cables get messed up after a while.

Seeing as how this is for my live rig and that I don't need more than 7 inputs (although I'm sure that 8 is the minium of ANY patchbay).

Any insigificant noise isn't going to bother me at this stage.

I'm thinking the Behringer is going to be the way to go for me.

Why are most of these patchbays TRS jacks...

when we mostly need unbalanced?
 
Well, I don't own a lot of outboard myself but it's mostly balanced. I wouldn't say we all need unbalanced, get balanced bays which will handle both.

I thought patchbays were more or less equal until I tried a behringer. As a sound guy in Japan once commented to me, they kind of suck the life out of the sound. On the other hand if you need to connect A to B and price is the only factor, they are damn cheap.
