A few years ago a good working condition Tascam 38 was dropped during shipping (UPS) and i have it here now (given to me by a friend). I am thinking about parting it out or selling it whole to someone here who might need spares or want the parts for some other machine/experiment they may have been wanting to do. The following is what i know of the machine:

-Dropped by UPS, was 100 percent functioning beforehand.

-Powers on, VUs light, fast forward and rewind work, play works, but a new belt is needed.

- Casing has a decent amount of damage.

-One of the reel motors was replaced with a new motor from Tascam about a month after the machine was dropped.

-Heads are in really nice condition, seems like a very low use machine as far as i can tell.

So anyways that is what i know of the machine. Could be a decent fixer upper, could be a money pit. But, it was working fine before it was dropped and most of its functions seem to still be there and working to a degree. The best parts of this machine are the low use heads and the new motor that was installed.

Let me know if anyone is interested in any of this. I figured id ask here first since there is more of an interest in tape machines here.

If you're going to part it out, I'd be interested in three channel cards.

If you decide to part it out, I'll take rack ears if you got 'em. I might even nab the reel motors too. Keep us posted if you do part it out. It's sad that a functioning machine meets it's demise in shipping...

motors etc

Yeah, there are no rack ears... but yeah the old motor seems fine, and the one that was bought from tascam to replace the one damaged during shipping should be very clean and practically brand new. If anyone here is interested in any parts, just PM me and we can work out a deal of some kind. If you want pics of heads etc i can get those as well.

Its sad to see this have to happen, but maybe someone can benefit from the parts.

If you part it out and if the head cover has the "Tascam 38" label I could use the cover.

Regards, Ethan
