What doe's a parametric EQ do for recording . Are they any better than graphic EQ . I know there's a difference but I have a furman dual 15 band and a peavy dual 31 band which I use the 15 band because it is enough for me for sure . Anybody got a brain I can pick.

It's just different, not necessarily better.

Sometimes it's just preferrable to dial in EQ on specific frequencies, which is what the parametric EQ is best at.

What would be a area or problem thast you would use one in . I looked at one and the guy explained that it more got a specific freq. and and so on and thanks for the reply.

A graphic EQ is not precise enough in both frequency selection and bandwidth to be of much use in a studio setting.

Its use is more typical in the live sound domain.

The difference is that graphic EQ gives you a discrete set of specific frequency bands, each of which you can boost or cut. However, you don't get any control over what the frequency bands are - it just depends on the graphic equalizer.

Whereas with parametric EQ, you have much greater fine tuning - you can choose which frequencies you want to boost/cut (you're not limited to the set of frequencies provided like you are with graphic EQ) - and you can choose the width of the frequency bands.

So in short, Parametric EQ gives you much finer control on how you shape your EQ curve.

you could use a parametric to say, zero in on a buzz or hum and cut some of it or to focus on an annoying frequency in an instrument and cut it or maybe to add a bit of gain to a pleasant frequency that's found in a certain narrow range......or .....
