Hello - I need parts for my Panasonic RS-260US tape deck (analog). This 1973 machine was made by Matsushita (Japan)
for Panasonic, however parts this old are not in stock. Any
reliable source(s) to recommend for OEM or recycled parts?
The machine plays back OK, but does not now record audio
cassettes. Many thanks for your reply.

If you havn't checked ebay do. You might have to buy the whole tape deck to get the part though. So that might be worth it?

Thanks for the suggestion. I did just that and
found what I need at eBay. Happy as punch!!

...just wondering if there *are * web sites or
other resources to locate old parts and schematics
for these Panasonic tape decks?

There must be reliable resources somewhere
with recycled parts like switches, motors, belts,
record/playback heads, etc. that do wear out over
time. I'd appreciate suggestions to know where
to locate them when needed.
The eBay find was a stroke of luck, really.
Hate to throw away a good tape deck!! :-)
Many thanks again for your help.

Yo Old Radio:]

Old tape decks are old tape decks. If you like the box then you like it and will keep it running.

But, if you try a Sony Dual Deck in the ES catagory, their best models, you will be impressed.

I have two Sony tape decks; dual deck which is the newest and a three head single deck which is the older of the two. The 3 head deck is not ES but it is a very good deck.

You ought to give one a listen sometime but enjoy the Panasonic deck.

(I don't know if my previous post made it to the list...so, again:)

Hello "Britt Reid" (relative of "John Reid", The Lone Ranger's
real name, and his nephew "Dan Reid" who visited his Uncle
each Summer riding his horse "Victor" along side the Great
Horse "Silver" who carried the LP who was fighting crime in the early days of the western United States with Tonto, [the LR's Faithful Indian companion]...who road "Scout" and shouted "Eiee Kemosabe" which means "My Faithful Friend" and....so on...)

Thanks for the dual deck suggestion. I needed a tape deck with a pause button and VU meters to monitor volumn while I record my Internet radio program. I'm using a Marantz now and found an old Panasonic on eBay to use as a back-up in my studio.

By the way, does The Green Hornet still drive The Black Beauty chasing criminals after his faithful valet, Kato helps him go out into the night by opening the secret side door to The GH's penthouse apartment building in Gotham because...."the weed of crime bears bitter fruit...and we know that The Shadow's 'nose' knows...and so does Margo Lane (perhaps a relative of Lois Lane, Superman's girlfriend), the only one who knows to whom the voice of the invisible Shadow belongs!") It all gets rather
confusing, eh? Anyway, thanks for the reply...Mr. Hornet :-)

Hi Ho & Yo Old Radio:]

You know, man, with your expertise in old radio, I conclude that you as old as I am! I grew up on radio drama and, if you remember, the Hammond Organ was THE background box for most radio shows. A great machine.

My Mother took me to the WGN studios to witness many radio shows but none as famous as those mentioned in your post.

I used to tell my students when I was teaching college composition that they missed a great deal of imagination growth by missing old time radio stuff.

Television stuff: BAH HUMBUG.

So, I guess our radio creativity carries over into recording?

Best wishes,

Green Hornet
