Pan problem when monitoring.

Alright here goes.

Purchased a midiman audiophile usb for recording on the go with my laptop.

Finally got software monitoring (sigh) to work pretty well with a latency of about 6 or 7 ms.

When monitoring a stereo signal, it seems that the 'panning' is all mushed into the midle.

Example: Take an electronic drumset which has all peices properly panned in the stereo field, send it through the audiophile and enable monitoring .. and suddenly the stereo field is gone even though both L&R monitored signals 'seem' fine.

We bybass the recording device and just go through the mixer and headphone amp , then sudenly the panning is all fine.
(Considering we're listening with headphones. lol.)

So yeah, basically the software monitoring of the stereo signal seems to totally kill the spacial feel. (snare and cymbals all in the middle .. *yuck*)

Any ideas?

If your not panning the software mixer then of course it will be up the middle. If using midi to record, record each drum piece individualy and pan accordingly.

It's all analog ... and I record all sorts of instruments.

Will see about the monitor mixer's paning and report later.
