Okay I should pre-face this by saying that this was just an experiment with Synfuls' VSTi Orchestra (www.synful.com for a demo). I should explain that I can't read music or play an orchestral instrument. I started off with this one without knowing how far I'd take it so it's mostly improvd. But I think ti gives a good enough flavour of the VSTi. So here's my pitiful attempt at Pachelbels 'Canon in D'.

Sorry to all you classical fans :o

It's a nice piece - you don't need to preface it with an apology.
There's not much in the way of mid or bottom end in my headphones.
You might have to add some extra lines underneath.
Interesting VSTi.

The cello covers the mids okay for me...I think...I added a bass in the last few measures, but it was a bit random as I said!

It looks like it has alot to offer, there are alot of nice things like 'expression delay' which is a predictive function, whereby the instrument track 'looks into the future' and identifies the following piece of music to compensate for maximum realism. The idea is crescendos and so forth. Seems very impressive but eats up my 512MB of ram.

It's not my work..it's some dead guys epic that I am sodomising. :D

Yeah I think I'll work on an original score over the next week...it's a bitch though, I have to convert one midi piece to audio as I go; need to upgrade the RAM post-haste!

Indeed, it is a nice piece and Telepaul did a very nice job with it. I like the tempo, not too slow. We played it last week in the orchestra and it sounded kickass in our concert hall with 50 strings, we are used to doing it with 4 players at weddings.

Not to crazy about the ride cymbal sound, it doesnt fit. Strings sound good. Synful is a pretty cool program. I have a song on this page called "The Church: Ase". The cello and bass on that are synful, it least some of them. I usually blend it with another synth. It takes a while to learn synful but its a good vst instrument.

Very nice job. The cool thing about this tune is that you can never run out of variations of it.

I recognize the piece...nice sounds. From my limited perspective, it sounds fine. Nice one...

Oh thanks alot man. Yeah the ride cymbal is all I had...I need some orchestral percussion. Do you happen to know what kind of cymbals orchestras use? I'm really interested in getting this or halions symphonic VSTi, I plan on using some strings for a folkish tune today. I checked out 'The Church', it's excellent, well done!

Yeah I don't know jack shit about classical music, but I do recognize this piece and it sounds damn fine to me. Really good job. :)

excellent work!!

Makes me want to learn use strings like that..

but that would be just ONE more thing for me to spend lots of time trying to half ass through learning it quickly.

Sounds good. I think this tune has one of the most beautiful chord progressions ever.

My only idea is that it would sound nice to have the intro (and recurring backing) phrase done without vibrato, but that's just my own taste.

I'm honestly not sure how to lose the vibrato; I don't know whether Synful supports it or whether I just can't get it to work! But yeah, you're right Timothy. Thanks.

The harder the velocity, the more the vibrato. Play the keyboard softer and raise it in the mix. I dont think you can completely get rid of it.

Ah okay, I dont play the notes, I write em in. I could fix it that way. I'm getting interested in Halion Symphonic.
