Hi, just wondering if anyone else is using pro audio 9 with windows 2000 nt? My problem is that my midi is not mixing down, and exporting. I record, 4 audio and 3 midi tracks, mix down and export. All I get is audio, no midi was exported. I am using sound blaster pci 128 for my soundcard. I had no problem before using windows 98... newer is better right??
hope someone can help.

PA9 is not compatible with Windows 2000 or XP. You'll have to either upgrade to Sonar or Home Studio 2002.

Good morning. Cakewalk has been fully NT compatible since version 6. See this faq for the correct information.

The specific link on the Cakewalk site has been pulled, but prior to Sonar 2 being released there was a comparisin between Sonar and Pro Audio 9. PA9 was NOT compatible with either 2000 or XP, but did work with NT 4.0

NT 4.0 and 2000 are very dfferent OS's (NT lacks support for DirectX (paritally supported), PnP, USB...)

This will work:

Dude, I ran PA9 on Win2k for over a year. It worked great.

Never worked on my system with Win2k - only MIDI would work, not digital audio.

You do realize you have to bounce a MIDI track to an audio track first, right? Just exporting without this step will not export MIDI tracks.

I don't know about all of this compatability stuff. I've run PA9 on 98, 98se, win ME, win 2k, and now windows XP pro with no issues at all. I'd guess that they just want people to buy the new product. I've used both digital audio and midi. I will probably buy SONAR fairly soon, but still...

Set your card to record your midi. Then set up a new audio track. Then hit record. That should play your midi and record it to an audio track.

Time to upgrade.

Thanks for you advice guys. I did try to record my midi onto an audio track, but it did not work. I have to play it through my speakers and record it that way. (not very cool.) I guess its time to upgrade again. Once again, thanks for your help.

Not so fast, Sir Ludwig.

I am hardly an expert, but this doesnt make any sense. You are saying you have 4 audio tracks and 3 midi. Can you add another audio track? If you can, I cant see why it cant be recording audio from your midi.

Something is wrong. Maybe it is the settings on your SB 128. I don't know that card, but isnt there some settings like "What you hear" etc.

Dont upgrade yet, somebody will help you out.

DavidK, I have tried everything, but I will hold off and see if anyone can help me. I dont understand why this happened. Before when I had windows 98, I did not have to record my midi on to an audio track, It exported no problem. But live and learn right? I didn't expect that I would use midi that much, but once you have it, its hard to do with out it. It opens alot of options for the overall sound. thanks for your advice again.

Really? Wow, I have never heard of that. I have an SBLive, but I never really used it with Cake, I have a Darla24.

How did you do that? I guess it is the "what you hear" deal?

If you record midi, you have greater control. You can reverb and Plugins.

Now you have me curious. Hmmmm. Cmon, somebody, help the Sir out here...
