PA Question

I currently work with the PA for my church and wanted to make some modifications. The PA is constantly being setup and taken down each week because the building does not belong to us. My question is... We have a mixing board setup in the rear of the auditorium with a snake running to the stage. Currently it is setup with the amps for monitors and mains on the stage with the un-amplified signal coming to it through the snake. I want to know if it is alright to move the amps back to the mixing console and send an amplified signal through the snake to the speakers.

This is not a good idea!
The speaker output of the amplifiers should be routed through heavy gauge speaker wire. Not flimsy shielded cable in a snake. This could also bleed a signal into the microphone lines...also not good.

The impedance of the snake could blow your amps output transistors!

You could run long 100' speaker wires, if necessary, but it really is better to keep the amps up on stage...

Sincerely;
Dom Franco
