Whats weird is that for my Studio computer I use a P4 1.5G,512 ram,80gig hard drive and Windows XP Pro and is basically bare bones new with at least 60 gigs left of the 80 gig hardrive.

On my main computer in another room, I use an Athlon 1.2G,512ram,windows XP Pro with TONS of crap,mp3s,movies,video,pics,tons of programs, etc. with only about 15 gigs left on a 60 gig hardrive. Believe it or not, the Athlon Still works TWICE as fast!!!????? Don't know whats going on, what is better in you-alls experience? Thanks!

ATHLON!!!

I have an Athlon 1.0 Ghz with 512 Ram, and run Sonar just fine ( along with games and all that stuff.)

Take a look at this:

wow i'm glad i picked athlon...actually it picked me cuz it was cheaper..

Yes, it seems like the Athlon is providing better cost/value for Sonar users right now. One problem I ran into -- watch out for your hardware compatibility. I was using a particular interface that really needed Intel interface chips for the PCI bus to work properly. It was frustrating, to say the least.

....however, on a UK PC Music BB, it was reported that Cakewalk develop their audio engine on Intel processors. To avoid any "conflicts or errors" and to ensure compatibility, it was recommended to use Intel CPU's.
One other thing. It was also stated that the Athlon runs hotter speed for speed and therefore needs more cooling and therefore needs a faster/noisier fan.
Don't shoot/flame the messenger:)

Yeah, but Intel P4 sucks... :D (because I don't have it...)

a cakewalk rep told me thats a myth...sonar SHOULD be equally stable on a P4 or Athlon(or course this depends on ur MOBO and ram), but if that graph is true it seems athlon works better...

Lies, damn lies...and statistics;)

Comparing CPU speed is (alledgedly) not an accurate comparison.

You're just jealous, Paul... :D

Er...no, I don't think so. I have never had anything other than an Intel and I never will, either at home, as a laptop or at work. On the basis that no one ever got fired for buying Intel;) :p :)

BTW, I see there is no Athlon comparison for my speed of CPU (2.4Gig) :p

Sorry, Paul, but that graph is plotting the CPU "useage" of various processors under a standard Sonar test file, not speed.

Couldn't wait to drop that one in, could you? :D :D

(BTW, it's an old graph!)

Dachay, aint you supposed to be working:D

As I understand it, it plots transactions against CPU speed. And as I understand it, a simple comparison of CPU speed does not tell the whole story.

And you are right, I have been waiting eons to drop that one in:D Smug bastard that I am:D

Hmmm... But it's a good guess. And something must be needed for comparison. That's why I don't use a Mac. :D

i think my dual mp 1900+ can hold its on :o :D

on what?:D Own?

I don't think thats the issue. Its the lies, damn lies and statistics that is the issue.;)

In the interest of fairness, the graph was updated just a couple of months ago with fresh numbers from participants of the newsgroup at cakewalk.com.

I don't think there's a huge difference in performance, Intel vs. AMD. If it was, one would be out of the marked a long time ago.

(Well, that's perhaps not true. Mac sucks, but they're still around. :D)
