p3 notebook with nTrack?

Has anyone had any experience using a P3 notebook running win98se with n track? This seems an interesting way to own a powerful, portable recording studio...

Technically it's kind of a good idea, but laptops with their proprietary architectures and inability to support PCI cards make them problematic. It's not impossible, but you're taking your chances. A firewire or USB 2.0 solution would be required for > 4 tracks of simultaneous recording.

Also, n-Track doesn't get along with Win98 nearly as well as it does with Win2k or XP. It would be advised to leave the 98 installation as bare as possible.

I'm going to try the same thing, but just for mixing. I'll let you know how it works (I'm using a Celeron, so if that works...)

It's not so much the processor that's the issue....I still use a Celeron 850Mhz on my DAW. It's a great little processor for the money. I do 18 to 24 track projects quite a bit.

I tried my Fujitsu (400Mhz Celeron, I think) notebook with 64MB RAM and Win2K last night. Got n-Track up and running with a six track mix and real time reverb - worked great!

Cool! I bet you'd have major problems with Win98 though. I have a PIII 450 and Windows 98 was so unstable, especially for recording. Putting a fresh Windows 2000 install made it seem like a brand new machine. Windows 2000 good, Windows 98 BAD!
