So... there is so much info out there on home recording!

So if i were to record some guitar riffs and vocals on my fostex x-12 4 track, how do I get them to my computer to put on CD? i have a basic soundcard that came with my computer, which is 3 years old HP Pavilion.

Also...
And how do i record some drum loops from a CD to my 4 track recorder?

Thanks! and don't be afraid to talk it down!

You could playback through speakers and mic the speakers.

Output your fostex to the line in on your computer, and vice versa, for transferring one to another.

This would be a great way to make it sound really bad!
Just plug the line out of the 4-track into the line-in of the soundcard and hit play on the 4-track and record on whatever software you're using. Make sure the PC's input is set to line. You'll probably need to buy some adapter cables to get from the 4-track to the PC.
Good luck!

alternatively,

you could use the fostex as a basic mixer and pre, and always record through it to a PC.

There is some great low-cost multitracking music software like n-track (http://www.n-track.com). That way, you won't have to record to your fostex, and then to your pc.

Either way, the cable you will probably need is stereo headphone to phono.

Cheers
