As recommended (thanks rayc ;) ) I updated the guitars on this tune, finally posting it. Got a pretty nice sound using an SM57 on my Marshall 4100. Line out the back just doesn't cut it, although it is easier to record when there's a noisy environment.

It's called OVERTIME and it's the top of the list at the link below.......

Any feedback on the mix would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks jpw23 - Mike's bass is always great IMHO.....and I am definitely biased! lol.... :D :D :D :D

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to jpw23 again.

Thanks for the listen David. The old guitars were not as chunky and I have no problem with people forgetting them :D

... Huey is very cool - great harp player too :D

Stay Warm - I heard winter has arrived in Cleveland...... ;)

Nice....bass punches through well. Guitars seem fine to me. Just enough bite for this tune. Vocals sit well, and they mix fine with the guitar and bass.
If I were to nit it at all, turn the guitars up a db or 2. Might not work, but so far I don't hear any clashes. Solo sits well, so you might not mess with that.

Cool tune guys....

Hey Dogman, thanks for the feedback...I was worried the guitars would walk over the vocals if I turned them up some more. I tweaked the eq on both around 1.5-2K so they are very close to each other.... Almost wonder if my board is difficient in that range (or source possibly) as it almost always sounds better with that frequency upped a touch... I'll go over this some more...

Florida - too many old folks drivers/walkers/hitch-hikers that go too slow....
N.O. - Katrina.....you're probably glad you missed that one....
Dallas - too hot (except maybe this winter).
Cleveland Rocks! Drew Carey said so! Well, maybe not....I've never been there

Hey Gerry I love the guitar tone you have captured here! This is one of my favourite tunes of yours, actually it is my favourite tune of yours.
The whole mix in general could do with some mids and a slight boost by a few db's in the highs just to remove a little muddiness that is being transposed to my ears through my system.
Once again Gerry, the actual guitar work is great, I love the new guitars that you re-recorded, they seem to have a little more aggression in them.

Great stuff Gerry!

I actually downloaded all your tunes and put them onto a Disc that is now circulating on my stereo, along with KISS, Chris Isaak and Sepultura. :D

I'm going to go and add this latest mix to my CD. :)

MMMAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYTE,
I loved the original but those guitars sound absolutely great.
I'd love to hear them a little louder but that would be a bonus on top of a classic. If you think they won't sit with the vocals I'll accept your word on that.
Terrific, truly! Downloaded & happily ensconced in my HR folder.
THANKSSSSS.

Nice job Ido. It does have sort of a Huey Lewis or 80's ZZ-Top feel to it. The guitars sound really great. I'd personally like to hear them a little bit more prominent, but this mix surely works. The bass and drums sound great and the vocals are right in the pocket. Awesome job. :)

Can't listen at college, will check it out asap though!

Gorty - thanks for the kind words.... I'll probably try a remix on this on the weekend. We have snow forecast for most of the week so shovelling will take up my spare time until then. (Freezing rain today  )
I'll keep your mix suggestions in mind - I'll use the EQ that comes with Sound Forge to tweak it a bit. I have a preset in mind that just might be just what you suggested. Glad you are enjoying the tunes!

AC - I used a RODE NTK mic through an Alesis board. I really like that mic. I applied a bit of Triple C compressor and some reverb from my PCM80.

Ray - thank you sir....your advice was the reason I redid the guitars on this. You have a great ear for what is right or not so right in a mix - as do many on this board.... :D . I will try and up the guitars a tad as suggested...

Hey Greg - thanks! Consensus seems to be to up the guitars so I will try that. Glad you liked it and thanks for listening! :D

Gtr sounds sweet and hot at the same time. Can't do better than that IMO.

I think you captured a really nice guitar tone here....reminds me of early 80's ZZTop a bit, vocals definitely have a Huey Lewis feeling as does the song structure...I also think just a touch of mid boost to the guitars might add a bit of xtra crunch that would sound nice. A very cool recording ya got here...sounds like something I would hear on classic rock radio...great job!

Fine, be that way, don't use me, I know when I'm not wanted! :) :)

Seriously, the guitars are a HUGE iumprovement, much better detail, solid midrange crunch....

Wow, that's how a guitar should sound! Great tones man, you should be proud. It's got that kinda 'more than a feeling' punch to it.
