Overhead Mics / Snare Mic

Which of these for overheads would you recommend and why?

IMO, the one that stands out in that list is the Pro 37. I'm pretty familiar with that mic and always had good results with it.

For snare mic options, the SM57 is a true workhorse and if it's not doing it for you, it's probably not the mic. With that said, do a search for the Audix i5. I've also used a Sennheiser 609 with great results.

No the SM-57 sounds great, but then again there are mics out there that do a better job. I was just wondering if there was one for a decent price out there. Im not buying a neumann lol.

You get a clear sound from the 37? Thats good thats what I need for my drums. Right now I have SM-57s as overheads and they do a great job but I could probably get a nicer sound from some condensors.

57s really are workhorses

I use Shure PG81s condensers, and IMO they do a nice job; and, they don't break your bank.

For the snare I use the SM57, and I agree with the mentioned above, there are better mics, but if you're not getting good results, it's definately not the mic

I have to say, I only record for myself, and don't intend to sell my music or commercialize my recordings

for 55 bucks more per mic than the Audio-Technica PRO 37 you can get a pair of RODNT5's
and i think it is definitely worth waiting and saving for. I started with pg81's for overheads, and i can really tell the difference.

Or for a couple of hundred more than the Rodes you can get into Peluso's, Josephsons, used AKG 451's etc... All of which will be a nice step up and something you can keep in your mic locker regardless of what else you may own

I concur with the suggestion of using RODE NT5s. They're good sounding, durable mics, with very low self noise.

The only mic in that range that I'd recommend over a 57 for snare is the Audix i5. I'd advise that you put the extra money into some NT5s, and use one of your current 57s on the snare.

beyerdynamic m201 as an SM57 replacement. Around $200 used, $250 new
