This is probably a stupid question. I just tried using n-track the first time. I have the headphone output from my guitar amp connected to the line input on my sound card jack with a volume control in line. I can't seem to get any volume out of the headphones that are connected to the sound card. There is volume but it's at a very low level. The program works fine and records etc. but at a low level. Any suggestions? Thanks

slap an SM 57 in front of that puppy, everybody else does!
Seriously, that headphone out jack is stereo and only using a mono plug raises the possibility of damaging the little amp on that circuit(you did say headphone and not line out, right?).Direct recording that bypasses your speakers will produce an unnatural sound.Any cheap mike will sound tons better.
But you really need a mixer, active direct box, dedicated mike pre or some other level-matching device to act as a go-between your gear and the soundcard input. The Berhinger 6 channel mixer for $100 is the cheapest one I know of with ok quality.
