i recently bought a new mesa solo 50 head and the other day we were recording and it suddenly dropped in output. when the master, output, or gain were cranked it still sounded too quiet. we changed guitar cables thinking it was a bad cable, then the sound came back. but later on in the recording it did it again. we tried the cables we thought were bad on another amp and it sounded perfect so we realized the problem was in the head. i checked the tubes and they were glowing orange like normal and the fuse was still good. i haven't tried the head for a day now so i'm going to check it out to see if it comes back. has anyone ever had this kind of problem with their mesa head?

I have a Solo 50 and have not experienced this problem. It's been working great. I guess you made sure to disconnect all effects and such from the imput and loop when experimenting, and used the same guitar when trying the cables in the other amp? If so it sounds like you may be one of the few with a bum Mesa Boogie. Contact them right away, they have excellent Customer Service. One other thing is the power stable that is supplying the amp?

Yup,B'all means call Mesa.I've owned 2 Boogies and they have always been efficient when I needed to talk to them.Fortunately I've never needed to send an amp back to them.Don't know how it is where you live, but here Boogies are the most wanked on amps in every music store in the area and all the floor models show signs of abuse including missing knobs etc. which is why when I got my current Boogie (Nomad)I made the guy haul one out from the back and watched him open the tape on the carton and then plugged it in and tested every function.I'm happy to report 0 problems going on 7 months now, great amp.

If that amp has effects loop, and your not using it, the switching jack is not making contact. Patch a short cable from send to return and that should do it. If the amp does not have an effects loop, then the problem is probably a tube socket or pc connector. Isee these problems everyday. I repair and build guitars and electronics.
Thats it !

thanks for the suggestions. i didn't get a chance to try them out since i had already brought my head to mesa repair station before i checked for replies. thanks again!!

When you get it back lets us know what the problem was. I'm curious.
