outboard mic pre into DAW

I'm using an out board micpre into a 2816.
Do I turn the 2816's input knobs completely counter clockwise?
I was told this is the correct way. IS it?

Yo Giovani:

If you mean the mic pre knobs on the top of each fader, mic line in, you can leave them OFF which would be all the way over to your left or counterclockwise.

You can also turn them up a tad to see if it warms up your signal.

With a good mic pre [I don't know what you're using] you may not need the input of the DAW's mic preamp. I use the 2816 and most often, if I use my ART mic pre, I don't need to tweak the unit's mic pres.
