Outboard effects on pre-recorded track?

I have recently downloaded SONAR trial and I have the Audigy Platinum ex. I would like to use my composer pro on my recorded tracks, but how do I do it? Should I connect line out to the composer and then composer to line in and record a new track? Please help. Thanks.

That would be one way.

Two other ways:

1. Compress the material as it goes into your PC. (Not the best method.)
2. Use a mixer to use outboard gear to mix down your tracks from the PC. (This is what I would do.)

Ok, a compressor wasn't the best example. But let's say I would like some reverb from my MPX-500 (haven't got it yet!), and I would like to add the effect after it has been recorded. I must record a new track with the effect, right? I guess it's not possible to add it to the original.
