What Pro Tools *****?
Tracked some vocals on this one last night and added some distorted drums on the intro and break.

I'd love to get some feedback on the vocal style, mix, composition, etc.

I really like this one and want to get it right.

Recorded with an Mbox 2 and Pro Tools LE 7.3

I'm not really familiar with that style. It sounds quite good to me and interesting nevertheless.
Most of it sound quite clean and distinctive, ie. everything has its place, the vocals sound a little distorted though. Is this done on purpose? Or could it be related to the superhot mastering at -6.69 dBFS rms sine?

The mix sounds pretty good. Spacious and clear. Everything is present at good levels. The song is pretty boring and monotonous, but that's just personal taste.

You did slam it pretty hard through the limiter. But, that's how music is now, so whatever.

Thanks for the comments so far. I'm gonna work on adding another part to the song to make it more interesting and hoperfully less boring.

Please keep the comments coming, good or bad. Thanks!

I'd have to aggree with GregL. The mix sounds pretty good (I was actually somewhat impressed with the sound quality for being digital- I'm an analog guy, what can I say- that's just MY style) The song itself sounds...like an even wimpier version of perry farrell met up with a guy from collective soul, tool and creed and cut a track. Ha. excuse me i'm a jokester. I did like the distorted drums the volume was good, not too loud .Ok now for the constructive criticism: I didn't like the break at the beginning of the tune. You know how the song starts to climb a little and then there's a chord change and drum accent "where it breaks" and the singing starts......That part sounds a little thin and very quick. Like... Hey what just happened? I think it could work, I just think maybe you should give that part a little more time. Anyone else?

Hey, thanks for the advice. I agree, I need to work on that intro. It's not very smooth. Collective Soul meets Janes? ha! I do like (or, used to like) both of those bands and all along we were saying that break in the middle sounds like Janes. Damn influences! :)

I'm glad it sounded good for you even though it was a digital recording. I did use decent analog equipment for the guitars. A Gretsch 6120 (Setzer) , a Bacino Boutique tube amp (wire for wire, tube for tube, recreation of a 50s Marshall 18 watt combo.) http://bacinoamp.com/ and an original TS-808 Tube Screamer fro the fuzz. Loves me guitar tones!

Some very cool guitar tones, and I love the bass playing throughout.

The distorted drums at the outset don't work for me at all. It's alarming and disconcerting.

Perhaps not exactly a smash hit, but a very decent tune nontheless.

I'm hearing a lot more Collective Soul than Jane's Addiction.

Good stuff, mate.

I don't think it's a smash hit either. :) Maybe some tune buried at the back of the album. Thanks for the tips and sorry the intro is alarming! :)
