anyone with an otari 8-track run into this?

It just recently started doing this. I am punching in by using the "ready" switches in the front of the machine because I dont have a remote. It was working fine, and I've done this on plenty of other machines, but then recently, punch-in is fine, but on punch-out, the machine mutes for about .5 seconds. just leaves a blank spot in your track. It could be worse, because at least we can punch in and go to the end of the song, but, it could be better too.

sticky relays.

...

The gap between the Sync head and Erase head is appx. 1", so at 15ips there would be a gap when punching out of appx. 1/15th-second, and that would be normal. ;)

That's not only normal, but exact. ;)

Any more than 1/15th second gap would possibly point to a sticky relay or button. So I second the opinions, above. ;)
