One day after getting off work early and making a quick trip to the bank to cash my check, I decided to stop by the local pawn shop. Without any change for the meter and only bills in my wallet I noticed two younger looking guys making their way toward the door of the store. Low and behold one of the boys was carring a mic box. I quikly got out of the car and introduced myself to see what he was going to pawn. The Groove Tubes box caught my eye and I knew I had to have it. I siad I'd give him probly more then the pawn shop would and offered him 40 dollars, and after a bit of talking back in forth it was mine.

Poor kid probly just didn't know you needed phantom power. I took it home and tested it out. It sounds great, and looks brand new. Not bad for not even going inside the pawn shop. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

anybody else out there have one of these mics?

I do, and I love it.
It is kind of like an Oktava MK-319. Not a bright mic but you can still get the vocals to come out in the mix nice without a lot of EQ.

Who would've guessed that Christmas would come early on the front sidewalk of a pawn shop?
I found a GT55 in a pawn shop once but the price was the same as buying a brand new one. The guy wouldn't talk about it, either. It was in a small town and he thought this city slicker was trying to take advantage of him!

So you took advantage of a "poor kid who didn't know it needed phantom" eh?
Great story, Merry Cnristmas!

Kenny, you are right. My morning caffeine hadn't kicked in and I spaced over that part. And, I hope the kid wasn't trying to unload a stolen mic.

I thought it might have been stolen too, but the guy siad his parents purchased it at guitar center in some sort of package deal. Who knows. He was trying to make some kind of hip-hop/rap demo and just gave up, or so he siad. He had a nice drum machine too, but I didn't want to blow all my cash. So far I've been very pleased with this new edition to my collection.
