the chick posses an amazing instrument... but the thing that makes the S+G version is the canticle backgrounds imo...

Don't get me wrong, the s+g version is brilliant. I just love the orchestration
and that chicks voice, or should I say set of lungs ;)

Chills up my spine.

Me and Bobby McGee

Original: Kris Kirstofferson . . . sucks
Cover: Janis Joplin . . . awesome

BTW I used to have Blue Cheer's "Summertime Blues" on 7" vinyl. Also awesome!

I mostly like originals but some covers are good. Their are some songs that should NEVER be re done tho.

I feel this way about Kiss from a Rose

Hahaha! Seal, FTW!

Anyone ever heard the Jerry Garcia Band's cover of "Dear Prudence" or "The Way You Do The Things You Do?" Gooood stuff. Really anything Garcia ever covered was always for the better. The Dead doing "Mama Tried," oh yeah. :)

Let's see, a few more...

Postal Service's cover of "Against All Odds"
The Skadaddyz version of "Hotel California"
This Kid Named Miles (that's the artist name, fo realz) doing "Ring Of Fire"
Joe Queer and the Nobodys playing "Walk Like An Egyptian"
Bonerama's all trombone version of Zeppelin classic "Ocean"

And of course, who hasn't heard the country version of Snoop Dogg's "Gin & Juice?" Though, I can't remember who does it.

Ooooh, speaking of covers, anyone heard the recently released, entire album cover of "Dark Side of the Moon" by the Flaming Lips? I just listened to it yesterday. Some call it blasphemous, but I think they did a pretty fine job of interpreting it Flaming Lips style.

How about Johnny Cash with 9 Inch Nails - "Hurt"

WORD!

I really enjoy pretty much anything that Me First and the Gimme Gimmes do. They do punk (or pop-punk) covers of pop/rnb/country songs. It's pretty funny to hear a dude sing "you make me feel like a natural woman" to a punk beat.

Reel Big Fish did a good cover of "Take on Me" as well as "Hungry like the wolf." So, yeah. There you go.

But +1 to Buckley's Hallelujah.

Great White's cover of "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You".

YouTube the unplugged version.

I didn't know Great White were very much heard of.

Have you heard Rock Me? Amazing tune.

Checking that acoustic cover now, pretty sweet!

Reminds me of this:

Not a cover, but definitely a song worth listening to!

Speaking of Great White, just came across this:

Lambchops cover of this corrosion over sisters of mercy

...

I thought Laura Branigan's cover of "squeeze box" was better than the original by the who...

Discuss

Few covers that did it for me:
Thin Lizzy - Whiskey in the Jar (orig: The Dubliners)
Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower (orig: Bob Dylan)
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (orig: Leonard Cohen)
Nirvana - The Man Who Sold the World (orig: David Bowie)

Ones that didn't:
Madonna - American Pie (orig: Don Mclean)
Celine Dion - You Shook Me All Night Long (orig: AC/DC)
Korn - One (orig: Metallica)

I'd be interested to see what covers you guys love and loath :D
