Good song. You got a real good sound on the guitars. The guitar riff was very simple, but very effective. Good lead break.

I didn't care a whole lot for the stutter start in the intro. It went on a bit too long. The quiet bit in the middle was a bit long too. But overall musically, I'd say it's a real solid song.

I would suggest that performance-wise that you focus on vocals. Sometimes they sounded a bit "flat" - I'm not talking about pitch, I'm talking about tonal qualities. The answer-backs in this song demonstrate what I'm talking about.

I would also concentrate on lyrics. Don't leave me songs have been written a million times.

I focused on the negatives too much. I'd still say this is a real solid song.

Ok, I beleive your 15 now. :)
Take this as you will...

If you're in this for the long haul, get some vocal training now. Your voice has an excellent rock/pop timbre about it. With training it will get rid of the monotone timbre it has now. Seriously, with proper training I think your voice could sit well in a hit rock song.

As for your first original, well it won't win any awards. But now may not be the time to work on originals. You're only 15, learn the tools of your craft as well as possible. Guitar, vocals, etc. The more you work on originals now, the less time spent on improving your skills. Spend 2 years getting some vocal training, learn to really wail on the guitar, and you have a future.

Nothing wrong with writing songs though! Too many younger kids forget about formal training and want to be a rock star as soon as possible. Train now, conquer the world when you're 18-21. :)

we have a winner

I just had to listen to this since I loved what you did with loser.

now fess up. You aint fifteen :D

The guitars sound BAD AS HECK. I know Im losing credibility, but I love those guitars as much or even more than anything I've heard in some time( with a notable exception of B.Sabbath's guitars)

Ok, this song is not quite a wildcard song, but I can tell you this is the type of song that could be a runaway radio hit.

about the sound. The overall sound is great. Get a good condenser mic now. Your vocals sound good even now, but they would be so much more pro with a condenser.

Also, the minor vocal tuning problems would be fixed if this were to go to radio, but they did not bother me (since they did not show up in the chorus- the chorus is the meat and potatoes of this song. It has a hook that sticks in the head).

Funk on Hero!

I've changed my opinion.

THIS IS A WILDCARD SONG.

Im am downloading it now. Could'nt help myself after listening over and over.

there are definitely some hooks in this song! i really like the guitar sound. it's very meaty. vocal is in need of a better mic and less reverb/delay. you also gotta get your voice tuned up (i agree with the vocal training).

i'm going to suggest something that i'm pretty sure is taboo around here but, check out antares autotune. i think it's helpful to use as a singing guide. you can take a vocal track like this and pretty easily clean it up to the right pitch. then you know what you sound like when you sing in tune (not in a cher kind of way, i hope you know who cher is or i'm really getting old). you can then use that track to use as a guide or just listen to over and over just to get yourself used to hearing yourself with better intonation. i bet your intonation improves. maybe not, but it's worth a try.

I'm with CyanJaguar on this...sounds like what's on radio now, only fresher. Right in the pop pocket to my ears, with some power and innocence.
Doesn't matter if you're 15 or not...this is good stuff. Once you've conquered Oz, come pay us a visit. :D

Nice pumping mix!!

I won't repeat the lyric and vox comments but, I will repeat that this is a solid tune and you've got skills worth honeing and nurturing. Stick with it and alway remember that you should have fun with what you do.

Nice song and recording.

Peace,

Theron.

Very good mix. And a good tune too. But I have to agree with the vocal critics. You need to work on that.

Hey I was just playing around asking what Tukkis means and all. As a matter of fact my middle name is James so I guess Ive got some Tukkis as well. Anyway, I love the song. The instrumentation is great and I love the guitar sound. Hey, dont take the songwriting criticism too harshly, Rock n Roll has always had "Dont Leave Me" songs and it always will. So write it and do it well and you have. Im gonna shut up now because i'm gonna listen too it again

I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer...

Thanks all for the replies and honest opinions

I agree with when you said the vocals are a bit flat

I hope it's not too late to post an opinion.

I think this an awesome job. If you were recording in a professional studio there are things that would be a little better but since you're doing this in a much different enviroment I can't complain. You have great mix instincts. The guitars and bass are kickin'. The drums could be sonically better, it cries for a real drummer, but still, the programming is excellent. I like the vocal sound, it fits the song perfectly for me. One thing, maybe keep the answering background vocals in the center. Nice clean guitar breakdown.

I agree that with experience your songwriting will get better but it's good already so just keep writing and following your instincts.

Friggin' cool...

Jon
