Hey guys, could someone please explain to me the positives and negatives of picking up an original MOTU 2408 pretty cheap vs going out and spending 700 on a new MKIII? Is the original also of high quality? Im just looking to getting into digital recordings - i have a 24x8 mackie board and want to get it into my mac - is the newer MKIII any better then the origianl at this?

Thanks alot!

Does anyone know anything? Any help would be great!

Thanks again!

I run a mkII on PC along with A HD24. I believe the original 2408 was unbalanced -10 only operation on the analog I/O.

The original 2408 has unbalanced rca inputs, the other two have balanced TRS. Also, the converters were upgraded in each succession I believe. The MKIII will be the most expensive because it is 24bit 96 khz, the other two are not.

The older 828's came bundled with software (AudioDesk). Check to see if this is also included with the newer 828. AudioDesk is basically a stripped down version of Digital Performer without MIDI capabilities. The program is very user-friendly and highly under rated IMHO. If it's included, you'll save four or five hundred dollars and the price of the 828 won't seem so high.

828 mk2 has audiodesk. and if anyone out there wants mine they can have it. i use a pc
