I'm now the owner of a Wulitzer Organ.
It's big.
Has a bench to sit on, three keyboards, buttons, tabs, slider, leavers foot pedals for bass, accelerator pedal kind of volume everything but a coffee pot.

It sounds nice, has a speaker and everything.

I'm not a keyboardist, but I want to dink around with it on my recordings.
I'm wondering if I should mic it and run it into my mixer, or pop the back cover off and hook up some plug in or something from the speakers direct to the mixer?

Or is there another way?
Thanks in advance.

Is there any way that you can connect this thing to a Leslie cab?

Carl

Sure, I could connect it to my Leslie 18. You think that would be better than micing it from it's own system?
Thanks Krakit.

Hey Chriss.
Yeah, my organ is pretty big. I can't get it down the stairs to my basement studio, so I have to leave it up stairs. Gonna be a pain in the foot switch I'm rigging up for on/off record. I'll be playing upstairs and recording down here.

It has all kinds of sounds so I can begin my Hip-Hop career almost immediatly.
I guess you heard, I'm under the tutorialage of my man, Gec.
Yess, yess.

Just need me some turntables now and I'll head off to Tacoma and spin some platters and be a DJ.

Yess, yess.

use panties like me when you spin.. people won't know untill they look over the dj booth, but it'll quickly be a unique fingertouch, and people will remember you :)
they'll also laugh of you, but just say something funny once in a while so the rest of the crowd think they're laughing of your jokes..

I wish my organ was so big I had trouble getting it into rooms.

Hi Tex.
It's really not that the organ is so large that it won't fit in any rooms, but the stairwell has a switchback in it and there is about nine inches more organ that open space.
No, I'm not going to the trouble of taking the thing apart to get it in my studio, I'd probably end up loosing some pieces along the way.

I was just wondering if anyone else records from a full size organ and how they'd suggest doing it.

Is there any way that you can monitor or even control your recording gear remotely?

As far as mic'ing it. You said that you can hook it up to Leslies, (which I assume ARE in your recording space), close mic the cabs and use the internal organ speaker for your reference.

Or you could maybe run a long headphone extension to your bench for reference.

Carl

Hey, Krakit.
That's what I was thinking before I posted here.

I was going to place hook up a master foot switch and two other switches for my dr770 and vs840, and run them up stairs to the organ, which is right above my studio.

I just want it on a the 840, so I'll probably mic it through the Leslie cab.

Then hit the record button, run upstairs and stomp the foot switch and play something, and run back down to see if it worked.

Ohhh,,,,,,,, I'm tired already.
Damn narrow stairs.

I think you missed the gist of Tex's joke.
Tex, you have me in stitches now regularly.

come on! :D
"Hi Tex.
It's really not that the organ is so large that it won't fit in any rooms, but the stairwell ... blah blah.."
hahahaha.. that's even funnier than tex' joke.. did't i tell you, you have to loosen up them panties once in a while badgas?

What? Is Tex makin' fun of my organ?
Before you go laughin to much Tex, I should tell ya my organ has a lot of bells and whistles.
I can play with it all day and never find out all it can be used for.
It's big, but it's light, mostly hollow space.

I'm a bit partial to the vibrato effect is has.

I know it's probably not as big as a Texas Organ, but it's pretty good sized.
When I find my camera, I take a pic of it. Fact is, I'll try to get me in the pic too. Can't promise nothing though, the organ will take of a lot of pixels. I would be dwarfed next to it anyway.

What are you laughing at Chriss?
I think I'm gonna have to change a note or two in my new song now.
I don't wear panties.
Never have.
I like my freedom.
Panties are for, well, for people not like me.

now what's wrong with panty wearing people???? ... ... i spit in yo' general direction.. ahhhh... tight panties ... :) :D

hmmmmm..... i like to DI the organ, unfortunatly mine has no direct out, so heres the deal, i run it through the headphone jack, into the mixer (to lower the volume a little) because the h/phone jack is amped the signal is extraordinarily hot, and i find this assists in maintaining the organs warmth, something i feel is lost when you mic the speaker, you'd think it were the other way around, but i believe a lot of the bass is lost in micing and a lot of the definition dissapears aswell... this might not be the healthiest way to record (for your gears sake) but it acheives the nicest results in my experience

i forgot to mention that you should always run a stereo jack out the headphone socket, then split it to two channels, because (apparantly) running a mono jack from a stereo output can short the output

Thanks for the tips there, dr. colossus. Basiclly thats what I gonna do, and run a couple of remote foot switches from my recorder to the upstairs.
It's reassuring to know I'm kinda on the right track. Thanks again.
