hey guys, im in the market for a new amp. i currently play thro a jcm 800, and i like it alot, i just need more out of an amp now. i need multiple channels, etc etc. i go for a very full thick rock sound, but not metal like what some of you guys might assume when i say full or thick. so anyways, what do you guys have to say? how are orange amps, also hughes and kettner, how are they ive heard good things about both but what do you guys think? cant wait to hear your input!

Not for sure what you mean by thick, but if it's heavy low end balls like in some of the newer hard rock ie.. nickleback, staind etc I would recommend a Mesa Boogie Dual rectifier for 3 channels or single rectifier for 2 channels. I own a JCM 900 a Peavey 6505
and a Mesa dual rectifier. None compares to the dual rec for the heavy sound.
Not sure about the Hughs and kettner but the orange would not gain you much beyond the JCM 800 as for as heavy sound.

like a full overdrive sound, not as heavy as staind or nickleback. ive played a duel rec and its great, but for the music im playing right now, i think its a little too low end chuggy sounding. ive played a 900 before, its was pretty good, but not all that much of a difference from the 800. i just figured orange, cause i know theyre very versatile. everyone from say anything which is a very midrangy twangy type sound, to band like silverstein and underoath use orange amps.

Personally, I love the Orange sound, but versatile is not how I would view it. Is something like a Bogner Uberschall or Xstatsy out of your price range? I know for me I would choose the Orange over the H&K any day, but if I wanted more versatility, the H&K may be a better choice. Maybe also look into an older Mesa Tremoverb? Or a Mesa F series?

hmm im not really sure. the thing that sucks is with all these great amps, its hard to try them out because most guitar stores dont carry them! grrr :(

Something like the Trilogy will definitely cover asll your bases and do it very nicely. I bought one for my son (metal with a 412 stack)) but I take it out clubbin' once in a while (Eclectic Rock and Blues and Country...) and use it with a custom made cab with a 10"and a 12" and it sounds very clean and I use pedals...

You're not going to get that sort of multi-channel versatility out of an Orange. The ones that have multiple channels either have two identical channels so you can switch between two sets of settings, or they have a "natural" channel (just a volume knob) and a "dirty" channel (with volume, gain, eq, etc.). The natural channel on them is nice, and pretty clean, but the amps are not the mark of versatility.

They do sound incredible, though.
