Me Too!!! Me Too!!!

Man with 8 3630s, I hope you have A LOT of other compressors too (besides your Urei and Focusrites) because a studio as big and versetile as yours:

"5 studios, 48 track Otari/Studer analog machines, Pro Tools 24Mix Plug (FULL VERSION), Mackie D8B for mixdown with Pro Tools, Neve console for studio a. come and do some recording!"

I hope you wouldn't limit yourself to so many of the same non-versetile unit (IMHO).

I don't like the 3630 or the composer ha ha i win !! The RNC is a great budget compressor.

But Ed has a point - LWS. why would you use quality recording formats but use 8 3630 ?!?!?.

i am also curious to hear why you think you coundn't find something better

Ed - I have seen the Behringer in pro studios but only as backup. I see them mostly in good lower end studios in the rack.
The 3630 is a budget compressor and perhaps some people like it but I personaly would not base any studio around it.

I agree...

I am not saying the Composer can shake a stick at a Crainsong, but it IS in some studio racks of places with some nice company. Even if just for back up, you gotta give it credit....:)

I still want to hear these recordings on a Otari 2" machine with only using 3630's!

My 1st comp is the 3630(I still own it) I now own 2 MultiComs and an Auto com and believe me I have sat up late at nites just trying to get the right sound out of a 3630.I MEAN LITERALLY HOURS! 1st there's this audible "click" when
compressing and a very noticeable "ooomph" type heavy breathing sound even withthe slightest use of the threshold and gain pots. And use of the limiter(which to me is limited) has to gained by setting ratio 1 and still there is
a certain audible "discoloration" of sound.
My Autocom alone with it's peak limiter and enhancer puts the 3630 to shame.I need not tell you how the Multicoms
are compared to the 3630.
All in All the 3630 serves 1 useful purpose,My daughter LOVES the Christmas-like colors of the led meters on the 3630 and for that reason alone I will not get rid of it!
Peace

3630

well first of all, I dont use a 3630 as my main dynamics processor. but i do regard them as a better compressor than the composer.whether you lot agree is a different matter.

Mind you, i do have a session which used a lot of 3630's which was recorded on a combination of 2" studer and pro tools. i think there were just some 3630's running on the drums and one on the bass. the reason was that the guitarist in the band had a home studio and he was rather insistent that we used the 3630 quitea lot as this was the compressor he was used to. but if you listen to the final mix (when i encode it), it sounds really good.

For most of our sessions, we tend to use more higher end compressors but thats not to say that we discard 3630's. many a time, we've used them on the kits. there's one compressor that i've never liked and those are the ones from LA Audio. biggest pile of crap ever. the visual displays are awful too. that's a good thing about the 3630, nice dB displays.
anyway, that's it for now,
byebye!

I'd also love to hear that mix ... please let us know when you post it! :)
