Optical Transfers, Anyone?

I am fairly new to home recording projects. I use a Fostex VF160EX for recording and Sonar 6 for mixing. I've found that, once I was able to wrap my mind around the operation manual, the VF160 is packed with useful and useable features. One feature I would like to hear comments from anyone about is using S/PDIF or adat to save or load song data. Any benefits/drawbacks worth mentioning? Thanks in advance. Ken

I make ALL my transfers to computer from my HD24 via Lightpipe thru a MOTU 2408. It's sample accurate but real time (which I don't find to be a problem at all).
