Optical connectors - can you get a tight fit?

I've always avoided optical cables because the connectors don't make a tight fit and it seems like they would very easily come out of the jack. Now I'm considering getting a device that only has an optical connector. Is there some way to get a tight connection with an optical cable?

In the 10+ years I've been using TOSLINK/ADAT optical cables I've never once had a problem or even heard anyone complain of connection issues. How many times have they failed you?

they always seem to have a tight fit for me.
make sure you take off any plastic covering on the connectors first, before plugging it in....maybe that the issue?

Perhaps that is the problem. I didn't realize there was a cover that needs to be removed. I've always used coaxial cables and never even tried the optical because I couldn't get a good fit. I'll check if there is a cover when I get home.

I don't think it would even go in with the cap on it, the fit is so snug.

They'll sort of snap in, kinda.
