opnions on barebone computers for a digi

currently i have a p4 1.8 ghz pc with 256 megs of ram , its a family computer

i recently bought the digi 002 rack , and found that this computer is much to laggish , pro tools runs slow.

bassicly i want a whole seprate computer for my music recording stuff

not being a computer wiz i would like to know your opnions on these barebone comps on ebay, and which would be best to suit my protool needs with the digi ( with lots of simutanous recording )


AMD XP2600+ (333FSB) BAREBONES SYSTEM

CELERON D 335 PRESCOTT 2.8 Ghz 450w BAREBONES SYSTEM

( also im open to other ideas and comuters )

i will be purshacing a Hard drive , Ram, and a dual display card for the computer as well ) - ( thats all i need with this right ??)

i'd say no to the cleron one. just because you'll have more stability with the AMD.
yes, you'll need a hard drive...but you'll want two. Digi recommends it, and you'll have less problems with a dedicated audio drive. I'd recommend a 40GB one for system use, and a larger sized one for audio (80GB or higher). Get at least 512MB of ram. you're also going to need a firewire PCI card. didn't see one with the included configuration on the AMD and you'll need it to plug in the 002. you probably will also run into noise issues with that computer. mainly because of the price of it they use cheaper made stuff which can function fine, but will be louder in noise (not exactly what audio engineers like).

you'll also want a CD-RW at least to read and write CDs of what you make.

Yups, ceratinly read the DUC digidesign post.

I will give you my Digi 002rack setup
Asus board, 512 ram, AMD 3200+, WD 80 meg system and WD 200 gig Audio, DVD-RW.

The AMD works great and is very stable.

I an give you all the compatible possibilities, but you can easily surf to www.digidesign.com/compato so that saves me some typing:)
