So I just got back from the store, and I ended up with a audiotechnica ATM41A.....I had plans buying the Beta58 from Shure.

I just told him that I was doing some acoustic performance stuff and he told me to save some money and go the AT.

Now do you think he is right ....or should I go with Beta 58?

its' only 40 more.

If it sounds good and you're happy, good deal. If you go to a store and know what you want, don't let a salesman tell you you're wrong.

You really have to compare them to see. You didn't say where you got it, but I know from my experiences at GC, that those guys don't have a clue. On the other hand, you could like the audio-technica better...but don't only listen to what a sales guy tells you.

If the beta 58 is only $40 more you paid way too much for that mic.

I picked up two AMT41A brand new in the box shipped from US to Ireland for $80 on ebay. They are readily available on ebay new for $40. I think that they are an end of life product hence the low prices.

It is a decent mic but for live use I'd look at the hypercardioid version the ATM41HE

Wow maybe I did get ripped off! It was at the music den. I might bring it back. I will check into that thanks!
