**opinions?** (short classical piece)

Okay... that guitar piece was fairly recent, this I did a couple weeks back and kind of liked it *shrugs*. I was/am struggling with the "concept" of where a chord prog ends, and a classical cadence begins (or vice versa...)

any sage tidbits on the subject would be well appreciated, if anyone feels like casting pearls before swine, LMAO

for lack of a real title, I called this "Cadential Etude #1"... as its an exercise to that end. I tried to get the various flavors in it to be as far apart as possible, yet as "related" as i could *shrugs*

I think there are lots of nice moments in there.

The first thing (or last thing?) that sticks out to me was that the ending sounded terribly abrupt and out of place. It actually sounded as if an ending hadn't been considered yet.

The other detriment I think is that it seems a little too monotonous. The continunous 8th notes of the piano began to get old to me. I think the rhythmic texture could be mixed up a bit.

Other than that, there are some very nice melodies that creep in and out from time to time, but the perpetual nature of the piece made me forget them. (This is one of the reasons that I'm not a huge fan of Baroque music. A lot of it has this same monotony to me.)

I think the piece could be made much more memorable with some contrasts placed at some point, so that sections could be inferred.

But, like I said, I think there's plenty in there worth developing. Every piece of yours I listen to strikes me as film score music before anything else.

I am not sure if you are familiar with the work of Ryuichi Sakamoto - Last Emperor or Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence

The exploration of the pentatonic scale, the abrupt end and dramatic change of instrumentation are all features of his style and this piece for me has very pleasant similarities.

This is great sound track material, if you like writing this sort of material then it would be well worth burning CD and sending it too local film school/media college or film makers, as short evocative pieces are exactly what they are looking for.

The piece is definitely cinematic and I find it very accessible and evocative. I think better sampled strings might help, but then there is a lovely quality to the more synthy ones you have used. I like the abrupt end as I am waiting for another piece from the same movie to follow it.

I did this one about a year ago and was going to do variations on it.
