Hey,
I'm hoping to get some opinions for the amp I'm using. I have an Echo Gina24 and I was running into a Roland SRA-50 amp. The Roland sounded pretty decent, but seemed a little too noisy to me. It had bass and treble control knobs which I had set at "0" when recording/mixing. I have a pair of Tannoy Reveal passives that I'm using for my main speakers.
I have a Crown CE1000 that I purchased for live use, but I've only used it a handful of times. I decided to throw it in the rack and give it a shot as my main amp. I noticed a great difference in sound quality from one amp to the other, and I'm not sure which amp I like better. The Crown seems to pump out a little more low end, although I realize the Tannoy's aren't known for their low end response. Seems to be nice channel separation and a little more clarity too. Is it crazy to use the Crown for this purpose? I know it's designed to be in a PA system, but why not use it in the studio?
No budget right now for another amp, but eventually I'd like to get my hands of a Hafler. If anyone has any thoughts on using the Crown, I'd love to hear them.
