I currently have a Peavey Bandit II which is a decent amp, but am not always satisfied with the sound. I've been searchin for an amp in that price range, $250-$350. I was thinking about the Vox Valvetronix, but a lot of the reviews seem iffy about the reliability. I recently can across a Peavey Prowler and found that used they run in my price range, plus they are all tube which I would love to have. They are 45 watt amps, would this be enough for small gigs without micing it? Also any opinions on this amp? Thanks.

i have a bandit and have the same problem. sometimes it sounds dull. As the amp is a good workhorse i didn't wanna get rid of it so bought a v-amp 2. its a cheaper alternative than a new amp.

I bought a used fender hot rod deville for $300 and I love it. I also have a peavey bandit...its great too. Im going to post a song in the mp3 clinic that has a vintage strat running thru a hot rod deville

i don't find the tone of *most* solid state amps very inspiring (one exception i can think of offhand is my PRS halfstack-that thing sounds quite nice-but it is not a common amp). a nice tube pedal can bring some character out of a bland amp. i like the mesa v-twin through almost anything. it even made my old peavey rage (a dinky little amp, but a hell of a kick out of the meager 8", just not very exciting tone) sound good.
